the amount of information that had to be streamlined for mass and varying comprehension is unfathomable to me. I have spent much of this semester deciphering maps and it has driven me (more) insane. Something as big as the new york subway is crazy.

Ripley's believe it or not

I never saw much of the Ripley drawings as a kid. For me the consummate Illustrator of my childhood was jack chick. This guy convinced half of the free world they were going to burn on a lake of fire for their sins. The artist behind "chick tracts" is the reason atheism is alive and well today.

Chick tracts scared the living heck out of me but the illustration is not that far removed from what Ripley was doing they offered a cheap and easily accessible way to communicate an idea or concept in the form of visual language. You did not have to be well read or even literate to understand that God was going to punish you for not listening.

Some 1920's illustration for Cadiallac

a chick tract that was lost ( read banned) and my favorite Alice Donut song!!

Ripley took more than one idea and created something that embraced sensationalism and could illustrate a point before the words were even read.
