Modern Hieroglyphs

As we progress in graphic technology, i.e. the tv, cell phone, laptop. will the simplicity inherent in our symbols decrease? I took a look at comon mac icons and saw that although the quicktime ad cs4 symbols are simple, they also have a certain degree of tech in them such as 3-d and gradients.

who could forget the streamlined figures in apples ipod campaign. In my opinion this is a play on the streamlining of audiences. it brings all people down to a common level. it says everyone can see themselves as this character. This self imagery shares a commonality with the symbols designed by Cook and Shanosky associates.

I had to slip this in here the symbol set used for the t.v. show "Lost" had to represent a society that was coming together in a dangerous area and had to have a new style of symbol created for the inhabitants.

Here is a sampling of the some the famous icons still in use today all over the world.
The readability here is the most important factor. Creating order out of chaos is the ultimate goal.
